Dominant 9th

This chord is formed by adding the 9th note(2nd note also) of the scale to the dominant 7th chord. It is indicated by writing number 9 after the key like A9, D9, E9 and etc.

The position of notes for A9 is also similar to Am9.

Major 9th

This chord is formed by adding the 9th note of the scale to the major 7th chord. It is often written with the number 9 after the key like AM9, BM9, GM9 and etc.
